What's with the name?

Something to do with 7" singles? Jacobite Risings? An unusual bra size?

When the phone rings, and there's someone with a Yellow Pages on the other end of the line, it usually goes like this:

"Hello, is that, erm, four five bee?"

At this point I realise that they're probably trying to sell advertising space in a magazine I've never heard of, or on a charity calendar. But just on the off-chance it's someone looking for a website, I need to be polite.

"Yes, well, forty five bee, can I help you?..."

So, just to clear up, once and for all, the name. Yes, it's 45b, pronounced "forty-five bee" and the reason behind it is simple.

It's nothing to do with the end of the second world war, jacobite uprisings, unusually proportioned ladies or even 7" singles, it's just down to the fact that when I started this, I lived at number 45, in a street in Edinburgh, and I had my office in the basement. Hence 45b.

Nothing too clever or weird about that is there? Also, it was a nice generic name that could be applied to anything, so that's why my band's CDs come out on 45b records, and why I may or may not start 45b Haulage, or the 45b plum jam company. It just means nothing, which is kind of suitable, and means if the internet ever disappears into a black hole, I won't need to start another business bank account. Which isn't a process I'd ever like to have to go through again.

Also, it keeps the postie on his toes, having 45b at number 69.

Having said that, I've missed a few cheques lately, and the folk at number 45 do seem to be going on a lot of foreign cruises...
